The player nicknamed the Hawk was soaring at the 2012 Australian Goldfields Open after winning the first world ranking title of his career. He beat the likes of Matthew Stevens and Mark Davis to reach the final then played brilliantly to beat Peter Ebdon 9-3 with three century breaks.

The left-hander from Ditton in Kent went on to have an excellent season, culminating in an incredible run to the final of the World Championship. His giant-killing act saw him knock out Jack Lisowski, Mark Selby, Ding Junhui and Ricky Walden.

Hawkins played his part in a high-quality final against Ronnie O'Sullivan but finished on the wrong end of an 18-12 scoreline.
