Haikou World Open Champion

The Haikou World Open is Allen's favourite event as he won it in 2012 and 2013. The event in China provided the Ulsterman with the highlight of his 2012/13 season as he successfully defended the title.

He beat the likes of Ricky Walden and John Higgins to reach the final before scoring a 10-4 victory over Matthew Stevens to land the £85,000 top prize. "I'm very happy to win and retain my title, to win the same tournament two years in a row is a great achievement," said Allen. "My form has been good for the last few months so I'm relieved, more than anything, to finally get a win."

In the preceding weeks, Allen had won a group in the Championship League and got to the final of the Betfair Shoot-Out, where he lost to Martin Gould. But his season ended badly as he lost 10-8 to Mark King in the first round of the World Championship.
